Besides a fishing license what's the minimum gear needed?

An auger to drill a hole in the ice, a 5gal bucket to sit on, a $15 little ice fishing rod and some bait.

Mulling this over.  I've seen the rods. Bait is easy. Camer is easy but investing in the auger is a little bit much since it wouldn't be used a lot.

It's nice to have a set of ice cleats too. HT makes an inexpensive set that grip well.  I usually have a couple extras in my sled.

I spent the weekend with my dad in North central PA checking out the ice at hills creek state park, lake nesmuck and swung by the PPL Montour Preserve on the way home today.  Lots of people out enjoying  the hard water.

WOW! That is all I can say for all you folks wanting to get out and do this. Under the "what" category on the top of the page, my first thought was to add:  Freeze your ass off.

I don't know if that's a sport or not but it sounds like you're all willing to do it -- and please send more photos!  :tease:

A fun weekend ice fishing, it was 8 degrees plus the wind.  It's just nice to have ice this year since nothing froze last year.

Looks cold but really cool. 8)  I like the rod holders so your hands keep warm in those heavy gloves! Seriously, do you use those hand warmer packets to keep your hands warm?

And what mtn_bikers asked!!

Nice alternate use of the hunting blind. Andnot as heavy as those sheds they pull out on the ice in Michigan and such.

rfed32, you are welcome to join us next year.  We also try to do a Saturday day trip to French Creek SP if the ice is good.  We can talk about it more at the rally next month.
