Don't know if it's rally worthy, Wolfie, but we're planning on a trip to San Antonio this summer.
This will be "Boots & Brisket" tour.  We're thinking a week there plus transit time.

Yepper, the plan is to take the pup.  Right now I'm thinking the AFB's campground would be good on not only cost, but location.  We were looking into the different state parks as well.

My son was just stationed at Lackland AFB in Ft. Worth so if you guys are gonna be in that area I might be interested also. Helped him move in just last weekend right next to the Air base, I don't think I could handle it WAY too loud!!

S&L,

Yes, we're definitely going this summer.  http://www.blazingstarresort.com/  This is a potential location.  I still haven't gone over it well.

Regards,
S&L

Beerlifter if you come down to visit son. Check out Holiday Park in Benbrook. It's pretty close to him. And a pretty clean and quit park. It is a coe park. You can get info on it from Recreation.gov. We spend a lot of time there so if you check it out let us know. We might grab a site that weekend also.

Another good'un to check out!  Excellent.

A link.  http://www.recreation.gov/camp.....;pstate=TX

Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 night minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 night minimum stay on holidays. The campground is open year round. Sites are $20/night for water and electric hook-ups, $10/night for non-electric sites, and $30/night for screen shelters.

Those are very reasonable prices.

It's a pretty nice park. Most sites have a lot of trees. If you don't know the park I could offer up some pretty nice site numbers. It's only 20 minutes from us so we do a lot of two day trips there.

After checking out that Holiday, TX CG, I found it it is nowhere near as close as I was lead to believe.  Sigh.

Well after looking around on Google Earth. Lackland AFB is actually closer to San Antonio then where my son is located. He is located at what is called Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth. So maybe I wouldn't be able to make it!!!!!

Holiday park isn't anywhere near San Antonio. It is very close to beerlifters son though. If he wanted to visit his son and camp at the same time.

Well I was looking around on Google Earth and there is a Lackland AFB in the San Antonio area. I am guessing that the base my son is stationed at is a branch off of this one. As he told me his new orders were at Lackland. I don't really know, but I do know that he is in FT. Worth very close to the campgrounds that br9 mentioned and I'm sure we will be camping there at least once this summer!!!!

It looks like we'll be leaving here June 20th.  The drive there will be at least 3 days.  We're figuring on about 5 or 6 days there.

I've been told San Antonio (Alamo) KOA is my best bet.
