PLEASE be careful with doing these hunts.  keep the kids in groups of 3 too. ( 1 older kids and 2 younger works well)

PLEASE make sure you also tell the kids to not ask other campers, or to dig thru refuse/trash bins.

we too thought they were a great idea.....until....

3 years ago, we were on a nice FAMILY campout.  there were 3 PuP's, 2 tents, 7 adults, and 13 kids aged 14 thru 5.

we decided to create a scavenger hunt for the kids.
we picked a list of about 50 things we saw in the open around the CG that they would just have to look for. some of the items they just had to write down WHERE they saw it.
we gave each group a CG map too.

we laid down the ground rules. do not ask strangers or other campers, do not go on another persons campsite to find these items, stay out of trash bins, stay in your group, etc etc

not even 15 minutes went by, and the CG ranger pulled up with 3 of the kids in his cart.

long story short, one NICE seasonal camper saw them, and asked what they were doing, and was nice enough to give them a few of the items.

this made the kids forget the rule about asking for help from other campers, or I guess they thought it would be ok because it was easier?  not sure...but they admitted to asking for help...

anyhoo.... another camper called the office and complained, and said there were groups of kids bugging other campers.  when he saw these 3, he managed to keep them on his site until the ranger arrived.  he lodged a formal complaint, and wanted us removed. ( we were on the other side of the CG)

we walkie talkied all the kids back, and the ranger was nice enough to just let it go as good fun turned sour.

the kids did in fact ask other people where they would find certain items, but they never actually went on another site to do so.  the showed us how they would ask from the road way.

just be careful with things like this....
