I am by no means a photographer so I don't want to spend a lot of money on a camera. The current camera I have only has the LCD screen to see what I am trying to take a picture of. This past summer I had a terrible time trying to compose pictures as the screen blanked out in bright sunlight and I couldn't see anything. So I am looking for a camera with a view finder as well as the LCD screen.. So far I have found 2 cameras in my price range that have this feature - The Ge X500 and The Agra Selecta 16.
With my limited knowledge of cameras I can't seem to find a difference between these two cameras except the price. I have downloaded the two users manuals and they are identical, even to using many of the same photos as illustrations and different type size.
Are there any serious camera users out there that can give me some indication as to what may be the better choice?
No professional photographer here either, but I do work in photography.
If your still searching, both cameras specs read very well. In your search for digital you do want a camera with a view finder and manual or semi-manual settings. The view finder is an asset because of the "shake" factor. When using a view finder you create a natural tripod which equals less shake. Also the view finder is a lot easier on the battery drain, the LCD's eat up batteries.
Settings for manual or semi-manual will get you the Aperature, ISO, etc. that you will know from shooting 35mm.
If the manual is very similar (or nearly identical) and using the same graphics - most likely both are made in the same factory. it might be the 100% same camera from what I can tell.
Saying that they are virtually the same - I would go with the one that is the better deal.....
Note: Agfa is a well known photography/imaging related company for over 140 years. GE- or General Electric is known for power systems and a slew of different products....MOSTLY now made for them under licence. GE history goes back for 130 years to when Tomas Edison was involved. Camera is not there fote.....
Chances are Agfa makes the GE branded cameras.....
