Is there anyone out there who goes camping and scuba diving on the same trip?
Down here in Florida many of the State Parks and others offer scuba as an option. Blue Spring in Orange City, Florida is a prime example where you can dive just the run or if you're certified it's a great cave dive assuming the manatees aren't in the spring. Let's hear from others who do the same.
I have not dived in years but we have sunken ships and artificial reefs 8)

Mark,
Actually that's my home state and there are many places up there where it works; the quarry outside of Lebanon comes to mind. It's a great place to spend the day or the night and dive the next day. To be honest when I'm up there we normally dive the lakes at my father's estate or those within an hour or so drive.

When I got certified I went to some quarry in PA that was flooded with a fire engine and a few other interesting things sunk. What I really remember is it being super cold. I have snorkled in FL and thought that was awesome seing the reefs in the keys and the fish.....and it was much warmer.
I took scuba in college 'cause I thought it would be a fun gym class. I never owned any of the equipment so after I was certified I never went again 🙁 I found out it counted only as an elective so I then had to take Aerobics for my gym credits. Scuba was much more physical and much more knowledgeable than dancing to the music....although the class had more girls in it 8)

One of my buddies went to medical school and did a rotation with a doctor in the keys one spring. He drove the family popup to a campground and lived in it for 3 months while he got credit for rotation with a doctor during the day and dove afternoons, night and weekends almost continuously. I was SUPER jealous!
A p'up isn't the most secure place to leave your ($1500 worth of) scuba gear and you certainly wouldn't want to leave it in your car out in the Florida sunshine. As long as you can secure the gear, I don't see why it wouldn't be a AAA+ rated trip.
Oh there's plenty of clear freshwater out there if you know where to look. We've dived from quarries to the Bahamas to the Keys to black water including caves and wreck penetration...we're certified in all of those areas including mixed gas. And if a thief wants your gear it can be locked in your garage and he'll get it.
