I'd never say this to DW...

I'd never say this to DW but we are considering updating from a pop-up to a hybrid camper and the beds hanging on cables with no support under us scares the hell out of me.  Do these cables wear out or break?  Am I concerned about nothing?

Who wants to try to sleep at night and waking up with every noise excepting to fall?

We've been sleeping in our hybrid for over 5 years and have never given the cables a second thought.  We feel very safe with them!

If I recall correctly, each of those cables can support something like 1000lbs.  I think the bunk itself will give way long before you have to worry about the cables.

I feel more comfortable and stable in the hybrid with the cables then I did with the two hollow poles supporting the beds in the pup.

I would check the cables for issues every 10-15 years!!

I work in the woodworking industry and have had many projects on which we have supported large heavy millwork pieces on cables. These are all over the place in the retail world, hanging above your head in just about any store, bank, hospital, school, etc etc. I've never given a second thought about the cables breaking on our HTT since they are just supporting myself, DW and the door while sleeping. I look at it like the cables on the tailgate of my pickup. Load stuff on there, jump up and down from the tailgate, They are plenty strong. Heck the golden gate bridge is supported by cables all be it they are huge cables 🙂

i think you're concerned about nothing.

as was said, the standard rating for the hybrid bunk ends is 1000-1200lbs.
if failures were an issue, the hybrid manufacturers would've gone back to the poles years ago.

If they would snap you would not even know it until you hit the ground 😀

Seriously....the anchor points are more of a concern than breaking a cable. Most bunk doors except for Forest River products are made by LCI, and are rated at either 1200 or 1000 lbs. I have seen both ratings even though the doors and cables are the same. Its always 3/16" vinyl coated S.S. cable which has a breaking strength of over 3 tons, the load is distributed over 2 cables so the cables alone can support over 12000 lbs.

x2 to everything already said.  My DH is a big guy, and we have no worries.
