hey i'm scott from schuylkill county pa.
i guess alot of people are downsizing from what i see in the classifieds........motorhomes large travel trailers and 5th wheels are dirt cheap and the smaller campers are getting big money.......my mother and i own a 1981 revcon 33', but we cannot afford the gas, and six load range E 16.5" tires right now.
i started out in tents with my parents, then in 82 cause of my moms back we joined outdoor world and rented the cabins till 1995 when i picked up my first pop up, a 83 starcraft venture.
i used the venture for three years till 98 when it fell apart one weekend, first the cable snapped, then the bed broke......i fixed it, sold it for more than i paid for it, and bought a 1978 fleetwood tioga class c motorhome......used that till 01 when the motor blew....luclkilly i made it home hehe.
one of my customers at the shop i worked at was always checkin on me on the weekends when i had the old fleetwood sticking 10' out of the shop........he asked me why he didnt see me on a sat anymore, i said the motor blew and it was going to be a while till i fixed it.
anyway he told me to bring my parents to his house and he would make us a deal we could not refuse on his 81 revcon.....mike was 81 at the time and the dr said no more rving with his heart problems.
we paid 12,000 cash for it, he was asking 21,000........i feel bad that it sits now, but i start it and move it couple times a yr, since we got it, dad lost his job and no one would hire him at 62 and i moved 50 miles away and started my own business and had no time for camping.
well now i have an employee and i can trust him to run the shop for a few days at a time so i want to get out there again and use my parents outdoor world membership, so it's back to the pop ups lol,
i just bought my friends 92 starcraft pop up for 200 bucks.......when i opened it up the canvas tore to shreds as i was warned it would probably do. otherwise the camper is in nice shape, the outside stove is mia,,,,,squirreling away money to buy new canvas, a friend of mine in canada told me to use bear creek canvas
Welcome from Chester County PA, Downingtown.
I was just talking with my Cousin today about how full size pickups and oversized SUV's are going cheap nowadays due to gas prices. He got upside down on a 1996 F150 that he bought he thought cheap, but it didn't fit his needs so he sold it after 6 months for less than he paid. His wife wasn't too happy with that deal :banghead: I am sure it is the same with the big RV's. They are staying closer to home or not going anywhere until the owners realize it hasn't moved in 5 years. There is a 5th wheel down the block from me that has sat for 3 years. It would be 4 but the guy took it out after it sat for the 1st year to get it inspected and then parked it again. He has a Chevy 3500 Dually to tow it and he said it just sucks down the gas when it is hooked up. He used to go all over in the late 90's when he first got it and gas was cheap.
Good luck with the popup. See you around the campfire :guitar:
