Any other new members like to bring there metal detectors along on there outings? in addition to camping been a metal detectorist for 30 plus years and love to collect vintage toys from the 1920's to the 1970's

Welcome from the Philly Area.  I used to live in Northern NJ...Elmwood Park.

What is the most interesting thing you have found with your metal detector?

probably the roman coins or the early hand hammered coins from my trips to England. But here in the us I would have to say a pound cannon ball from the revolutionary war

Howdy from the desert of Central/Eastern WA.

I'll take my metal detector with me if I know I can play around.  As for collecting stuff... I used to have one of the largest collections of vintage waffle makers in North America.  It was a hobby turned obsession.

Let me know if you'd like added to the CC members map.  No addresses.  Town/city only for security reasons.

Hard to believe items from the revolutionary war are still being found.

Enjoy your the weather and your first trip with your son.  There are a few Rallys in the area (depending on how far you travel). There is a Rally at Gettysburg 4/20-22/12.  I bet there are some artifacts in that area.  There is also a Lakota Wolf Preserve in NJ 5/18-19/12 and Niagra Falls 7/11-15/12

I live close to the 1776 trail that was used by both the Brits and the Americans and every once in a while i will turn up a nice artifact last year i found a really nice uniform button from our side. I will def. look into doing a rally sometime this year but as for metal detecting some of the areas you mentioned are off limits because of there historical preference, But i am sure i could find local parks and property to detect in the area, will mostly be about spending time with my teenage son be for he decides he wants nothing to do with his old man as he discovers girls lol. Guess you could say i want to give him some of those great memories he could look back on when he gets older and says to his kids " I can remember camping with my dad when i was a kid". We allready have a lot of tent camping memories so now its on to the pup!

If you want to know what to experience on your first rally as a newbie....talk with Mariska.  Her first Rally was at French Creek PA last month.

Basically a rally is when 4 or more people from the website get together at the same campground.  There usually isn't an organized activity except for the Saturday night pot luck/campfire when everyone gathers at one site for some food and entertainment.  Sometimes there may be a trivia game, movie on a big screen, pig roast, or a theme or it could just be sitting around a campfire and chatting in person with people you meet on the website.

On Saturday during the day people do their own thing.  Sometimes they may stop by and chat with others, go for a hike, bike ride, kayack, visit the local area, or just hang around the campsite enjoying some ice cold "lemonade"  .  It is not mandatory that you come to the pot luck or campfire.  It is nice to camp with people that you know  even if it is just online.

that's mee!

As I mentioned in another post, these folds are great! If you can make it to a rally, I think you'll really like it.  If not, everyone here is super duper helpful.  I didn't do one lick of research before I got a PUP. I had no idea about leveling or electricity or towing.  I asked a million questions, and got great answers here.

You mentioned you had a son, I believe there are families with teenage sons here too, so he'd be right at home with this group too.

Enjoy!
