" I am sure it will be a great group as we haven't had any friends or family to camp with since I have joined the Army. "
Well you've found the right place. There's lots of camping family and friends here! Hope Ya'll can make it in September. Maybe between now and then you'll run into some of us in the woods. (A friend just told us of a great COE CG called Gunter Hill near Montgomery).
I will have to check it out. I am not sure exactly where you are located I was talking to a lady the other day at the DMV here in dale county and she told me that COE CG Hardridge creek is nice place. I was also looking at blue springs state park. Have you heard anything about either one of these places?
We've been to Blue Springs. Lovely, but very rustic. The springs are icy cold all year long. We camped at Hardridge Creek often when we lived in Dothan. Very very nice. But our favorite campground down there was White Oak. Also a Corp of Engineers campground, nicely maintained. One thing, be prepared for ant invasions wherever you camp in the south. The ants start their trek the second the tongue of your PUP hits the ground. 🙁
Also, Ft Rucker has an awesome campground. I've never had the opportunity to use it, but I heard it was revitalized recently and it is wonderful. Might be a great place for your first trip of the season.
Thank you for your service. My son is a Marine, been in for 22+ years. We certainly appreciate all of our military heroes.
