We bought two-way radios from Home Depot a few years ago with rechargeable batteries.  They cost about $24 and are a great investment when you have kids.  They are great when the kids are walking to the bathroom, playing at the playground or most anything else.

I'm not sure of the difference between a walkie talkie and two-way radio, but do others use them?

We have Motorola Talk Abouts that are a combination GMRS/FRS. They are rechargeable. We paid for the licensing that goes with the GMRS side. We can talk to each other from the Mohawk Loop at Watkins Glen to friends that are down in town on the GMRS side.

I got them when the FRS radios first came out about 15 years ago for skiing and have been using them for other activities as well. I've even used them while skiing in the Swiss Alps and they really come in handy. Now we use them for camping, down the shore to communicate between the beach and the house, tailgating, caravaning, biking, etc.

We use walkie talkies as well and are great when they work.  My kids will play somewhere leave it and move on then I have to play the game of remembering where you were last.

A must for the kiddo's. We have fun with them too...Our new walkie talkies are new...their name escapes me atm. They are a 27 mile radius and our last camping trip they sure did come in handy as they were new! Another great object to have when you have kids and teens to keep them engaged and safe.

I bought a set when I got tired of looking for my wife in Walmart. That was before we each had cell phones, but we still use them every time we go shopping. They also are handy when I'm out in the boat and she's at the camp.

I have a pair of motorola's.  I don't know what they are or the distance they cover.  My Dad and I used them at flea markets when we had a booth and one of us would go for a walk.  Now I use them for odd things like running wire from the basement to the attic, traveling with 2 cars, etc.  They are usually in the camper but I haven't used them yet while camping.  I am sure I will at some point.
