Are there any parents that take the kids camping alone?  Are you exhausted, like me, by the end of the weekend with entertaining them?

I dont know who is more excited when I take the kids camping alone,  my wife or the kids.  It happens on occasion when DW has to work on the weekend.  The boys are pretty good for the most part and when I do take them alone I gear the trip towards things we like to do.  Fishing is usually the big thing,

I enjoyed the times taking our sons traveling & camping alone. They are special Mom & the Boys memories. No, can't ever say that I felt the need to entertain them. We were camping. They had been campers since I was pregnant with them so, they knew how to make their own fun.

I told Lori, as soon as Nathan is potty trained, I am going to start taking him camping alone.  I can't wait.

Due to DH's work schedule (which often results in mandatory Friday night or Saturday day overtime on short notice (I'm not complaining we are thankful for the opportunity to earn extra $)) we've had to choose between me taking DS's myself or cutting the trip short.  This happened on the first 3 trips that we'd reserved.  I took the boys, who were 6 & 8 at the time.  Yep, I was always looking forward to the moment when DH would arrive on Saturday night, but I wouldn't trade those memories with the boys for anything.  It was hard and frustrating sometimes, but that's inherent to parenting itself.  Yes, there were unique challenges that I wouldn't have had at home (where I could count on Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Bill Nye the Science Guy, or Between the Lions to distract the boys for 20 minutes while I took a shower, or waiting anxiously outside the men's bathhouse for them to emerge and hoping that they'd thoroughly bathed despite lack of adult supervision)  it was no more stressful that it would have been if DS's & I had been at home while DH worked (maybe less so because it seems like everything's better when camping  :)!
