Led Lights Under Steps

I was at an auto parts store the other day and saw some 12v Led Light Strips that are used under cars as accent lighting.
I was thinking these would be nice to add under the camper near the steps to cast some light on the steps to help prevent tripping in the dark.
Has any one done a mod to add step lighting? What would be the best way to wire this into the campers's 12 volt system? What type of switch would one use for turning these on or off? I'm no electrical expert by far but have done some minor stuff and I wouldn't think this would be above my pay grade if someone could lead me in the right direction.

Thanks

the wires closest to you would either be left or right immediately inside. (under a bench, inside fridge space, or cabinet)  if you have an outdoor light, the rocker switch should be right there too.  I would just tie into that first, that way they both come on at the same time.  or you could add another rocker switch, right next to it, and tie onto the power leads

Yes, I had a problem with my dorm frig. I use on outside when I camp kept vibrating the water pump switch to "on" while traveling down road. So I took the wires loose and wired another switch up under my sink behind a cabinet door to access. I know use the old switch as LED step lights.

I ordered a small LED purple pod light that they use on Motorcycles. (DW likes Purple) After arrival, it was not bright enough so I ordered two 9 LED light strips. I used 1 for step light and another I wired to use in front storage compartment. LED lights do not draw much voltage so I hooked them up to another 12 volt source which is already on a fused circuit. I cut a 45 degree angle on a 2x4. I drilled some holes to run screws/ wire through the wood so it will not split. I first mounted the lights/block of wood above where step stores when travel. On the first night of use, I had a problem of gnats swarm around the door. When someone went in or out, gnats went inside. I took the wood screws loose that mounts the block of wood and moved it back toward the frame and no more gnats around when in use.

I never thought about bugs around the door. They did have some orange LED's at the auto parts store. I wonder if that would be less attractive to the bugs.
