Moments ago I just got the NEW Tag from the DMV for my '93 Coleman Destiny Royale. After almost a year of looking and picking the brains of many of you here I went to the Florida Dept. of Traffic & Highway Safety and had them over rule the DMV about a title for this...seems since the VIN isn't entirely readable they issued me a "Registration Only" tag.
Now I'm no fool but I found this on CL listed in a Yard Sale on the other side of town so I called in the last six or so weeks I've been going round and round trying to figure out if I "could" even buy it and put it on the road. Well this afternoon a friend is going to pick it up for me since the T&C Mini-van is now getting the hitch system installed.
My DW and DD's are currently out of town so I have the time to play with it and fix things like replacing the table that is missing and swapping out the propane tank. This thing is beautiful and takes little to NO major work before I put it on the road. With those I've looked at over the last year this could easily be sold for $1500+ but nobody wanted to deal with the lack of a title...I did and so I got this for $500 and worth every penny.
Thank you to everyone who has given me advice and encouragement. With all the time and effort I've put into finding the right one...as many of you have said, "the right one will come along" and I believe it has, this one is perfect for us right now, so again thank you everyone. I'm no longer a "looker" but now I'm an OWNER! Pics to follow.
Doc 🙂
like here in Pa. there is alot of used trailers for sale without titles and most people don't want to touch them. Easy solution to that problem is to have it declared home made or custom modified then go through the Pa. enhanced trailer inspection. Yes not cheap but if the price is right the paper work and time is more than worth it !!!!
Thanks everyone I'm supposed to take delivery today if a friend can finally make it over before dark. My B-day today (52 and yes my DD's are 5 & 3) and I'd really like my present to my family. MY DW & MIL did join together to get me a new Gas Grill from Lowe's for the patio. My Ducane is on it's 18th year and I can't even get parts for it anymore so I was due.
Again THANKS!
Doc 🙂
Sound like a great deal. Congrats!
I never worry too much about title (but then I am in Canada)- do a search at the local DMV and talk to them about it (make sure its not on stolen list). VIN on trailers is normally welded or die stamped/punched into the A frame. Also if there is an old license plate on the trailer the DMV may be able to look it up.
The DMV did that too - but for my dad's car he bought/and restored). It was a rusty shell of a ford coupe (1940 or so) and the VIN plate was long rusted off. DMV inspected it and issued a new VIN plate which has to be put where the old one should have been. The car is on the road now - and is definitely not stock any more.
