To be accurate Wayne,
I assume its the 3.7.......... but 2 or 4WD, gear ratios, cab style, all factor in.
The tow ratings on the 6 cyl Durangos vary from 3300 to 4900 lbs, depending on "stuff" like that.

Here is Trailer Life's 2006 Towing Guide, it should help break down what you have and start you off.

I'd be very careful of using Trailer Life's towing guides.
Over the years, I've found they contain too many errors and omissions.
Both Ford and Chrysler Corp. have limitations on frontal area of the trailer which I have never seen in any towing guide compilation like Trailer Life as well as other errors.
I'd go to the manufacturer for that info.
Here is the Dodge towing guide which includes your year.

However, Dodge does not put the frontal area towing limitation in their guide. It only appears in your Dodge manual.....

i agree about not relying on Trailer Life's Towing Guide, for the same reasons.
and Dodge puts out their own towing guidet that is much more accurate.

Wayne, when you ask a question, "what can i haul/tow", there's no way to give an accurate response with only the year and that it's a 6cyl. engine.

you need to provide: cab size, engine size, bed size, rear end ratio, 4x2 or 4x4, auto or manual trans, factory tow package or not and number of passengers.
without this info, the only responses can be ball park numbers and ranges.

🙂 I want to thank the folks who replied to my question, right or wrong on any info in not important, but rather that you took the time to help me out. I have dug for my owners manual, ( of little help) but will be visiting my local dealer to hopefully get he straight skinny on weight I can haul and pricing on a proper hitch and other towing options I can look into. Again, Thanks to you all..... Wayne

Best way to do it...  Ask the dealer to look up your V.I.N and they should be able to tell you everything on your truck and what your specific truck can haul ..
