I just wrote a book and lost it all because it said I wasn't allowed? Was I logged out and didn't know it? I lost it all as it didn't save and as I tried to retrieve :- it was gone.

Did you have to sign in when you made this post?

Did you try your browser's back button hoping to find the text?

not sure what happened, but with long posts, i try to use notepad or word first.  then create the new post, then copy/paste it into the reply box.

sometimes you can hot the back button and click on the reply box and it will be there.

could have been a time out error as well?

Sorry to hear that. As a Moderator on several forums and ran a few myself - I understand the frustration.

There is normally a limit to length or number of charters in most forum posting software. There is several reason for this - injection attack schemes, html spam, and mostly forums are for discussion, so "story writing" is not its strong suite.

Some Admin Setting for phpBB:
Limit editing time: (max time allowed to POST a message you started)
Maximum characters per post/message: (defaulted to 6000 i think - this board may be different)

If your writing a LONG story/ or book as you said....you will have to break it up into a few post.

Best if you edit it off line as well........Or post it on your own blog and give us a link to it!

I'm very sorry to hear it, I've had it happen to me way to many times.  Browser back has worked for me sometimes.

You were logged in because that the only way to get an option to post.
The system defaults to 60 minutes, make sure you check the box to 'always stay logged in'

I think I know what happened, I walked away and came back to finish up my post. I think I had a "time out" error so back button didn't work. However, I retrieved it through the spell check box that was covered up as I logged out or shut down, I had to fix it then send it because the spell check box didn't have all of what I wrote before. The post is under "How to keep the spark with teenagers" if interested.  Thanks for everyone's help and I will remember to hit the stay logged in.
