We are spending one night at the Great Wolf Lodge and I'm very disappointed... so far.  This is a good reminder why we camp.  🙂 It's a nice place but crazy expensive with the hotel room over $300 for the night.  ??? The 2 kids brought friends so that's an extra $80 ($40 each) for the two additional kids to use the indoor pool.  :-X A few of us showed up early and lunch for 1 adt and 2 kids was $86. (no alcohol).  :- The other 2 kids got chicken fingers later at $26. ($13 each)  :'(  Over $500 for the evening.  :omg: I've never spent $500 for a weekend of camping and that includes 5 hours away trips.

$330 hotel
$80 pool
$86 lunch
$26 chicken fingers

I may need to pickup a second job so we can camp in May.  :banghead:

So here's what I found out about the restaurants.  There are 7 grouped together for one price, $25 per prerson plus drinks.  There are 6 of us x 3 meals a day.  Thats about $500 per day for food, drinks and snacks. Scotrun Diner, (1/2 mile away) we'll see you in a little while for breakfast.  It got to be cheaper than the $175 it will cost here.

FYI - the water park is pretty cool.

But you have to do an expensive hotel trip every now and then to remind you how awesome camping is.....Imagine doing a week or more of it with only cash

Back in 1981 pre everyone has a credit card, my parents drove with 3 kids to Florida.  My mom took a serious amount of cash out of the bank the week prior to us leaving to pay for everything like you describe (only in 1981 economic amounts).  My mom put the money in a safe place in the house. The night before we left she couldn't find it.  My Bro, Sis and I voluntarily went to our rooms while Mom and Dad "discussed"  :tickedoff: :banghead: the situation very loudly and tore the house apart while the found it. They did find it and we had a magical time at Disney

Thanks JoeCamper for posting this topic and thanks for everyone's replies.  I was thoroughly entertained, did not have to pack a bag and did not spend a dime.

Yup, the wife our DS, two other mothers and 4 other boys went there for a weekend and I could not believe how expensive it was! My DW said food was ok, but the price was outrageous! Then they all got those magic wand thingys and if memory serves me correctly they were $15-$20 a piece.

Yup, camping is the way to go! Piece and quiet and the meals are far better!

Just a note, we drove past the Scotrun diner but never went there, maybe we should have!

This is one of the reason why we would like to camp at Disney World in Orlando at Fort Wilderness. We get great rates at Shades of Green but it's still a lot more expensive than camping there. Of course this will be a few years down the road when my son gets a bit older.

Nice picture Joe

Scotrun Diner, haven't been there in years. Billy's Pocono Diner heading towards Stroudsburg on 611 has good burgers...for future reference  😉
