Thought this might turn into an inspiring and uplifting topic.
Got the idea to post after I posted the other night ('get to know each other game') about getting front row seats to see The Who - that was made possible by the kindness of a total stranger. Back in the days of 'sitting out' for tickets, DH was literally $2 short and a person who was a few back in the line overheard the conversation with the clerk and generously insisted (refused to give address so we could mail reimbursement) that DH take the money.
We got front row seats, center stage; we are still so grateful to that person, whoever and wherever they may be.
Years ago, when we didn't have a pot to P** in, we took a day trip to Ocean City, NJ and could only afford to have the boys go on 2 rides each at one of the amusement piers. A woman came up to us, said that she'd bought too many tickets and had to leave - did we want the extras? She gave us $20 worth of ride tickets.
Recently, we were camping at Cape Henlopen State Park (Delaware); the previous campers left a large amount of firewood at our site.
Can't even begin to tally up how many times anyone in my family has been to a doctor's office or hospital and has received personalized TLC from the staff, though they didn't 'know' us outside of a professional capacity (I will never forget the nurse who smoothed my hair/brushed back my bangs before my tonsillectomy, or Nurse Diane at Cowpath Pediatrics who cared for my son as if he were her own when he had a virus in December).
Thanks to ALL of the nice people out there, you really DO make a difference.
There are a lot of kind and generous people out there. I saw a sign today at an old place that has some weird stuff for lawns and gardens, rusted or hand-painted fun and crazy things. The sign posted at the door was: PAY I FORWARD. I don't know if it was for sale or was the store owner's philosophy! What do you think?
I've been known to buy meals for complete strangers. I'll tell the server, "See that empty table there? When it's sat, take their order and come to me. I'll pick up the ticket. After they've ordered you can tell them it's covered but don't tell them from whom."
I've also been known to pay tolls or coffees and donuts in the Dunkin' Donut drive through for cars behind me.
