got home late from traveling, needed to get dinner going, so I had told my son to go fire up the grill.
went inside, got dinner prepped, had the other son go get the mail outside.
I get the mail, see the "yellow delivery card" from USPS, and it reads:
"Left package in grill" on the back.
OHHH NOOOO AGHHHHHHHHH SHHH!!!!!! TTTTTTT !
Run outside, flip open the lid, to see a hot and charred/melting packing box.
I scoop it off the grill, it falls into pieces of melted styrofoam and the contents fell out.
It was my son's graduation gift from a relative that forgot to mail it 2 weeks ago...lol
it looked worse than this...

it was a kindle e-reader with all the latest bells and whistles. ( he leaves for college this week)
needless to say, I have to call USPS tomorrow, and sort this out. there is a listed safe place to leave packages, and the grill was not it!
it may have been the substitute driver we get once or twice a month too, which would explain it.
FWIW, I learned a new lesson... always open your grill before lighting it !

This is the first step of any grill lighting directions I've seen, they claim you can die if you don't lift the lid 😉 Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!"
Mom taught me that also, she got the grill hot before dad got home.
