I don't really follow sports. I root for the local team. That being said......
I am originally from Northern NJ and was at a family function in NJ yesterday. I now live in the Philly area. They had the Devils -vs- Flyers game on at the bar. I said to my cousin "You invited me into enemy territory" :knuppel2: There was a little kid running around with a Devils Jersey on. Now I know I was going to NJ and would not wear an Eagles, Phillies, or Flyers shirt....why ask for trouble. But my son was wearing an orange shirt :baseballhat: A little support in disguise O0

You can wear Philly sportswear in NJ, I do it all the time and NY teams have slowly moved southward into the state, so you are safe. It is when you go to anothers opposing arena, that the problems start. Go Flyers!!
FWIW, I will never have respect for any NY team, that calls themselves NY and play in NJ. I don't care how close they are to NY.
Best Regards,
Norm
I used to live in Bergen County (Elmwood Park)....Where the Sopranos was considered a documentary 8) . I was in Saddle Brook at my cousins retirement party. My bro lives in Wanaque not far from the NY border.
I heard someone say onetime....The New York Giants of New Jersey

I can't wrap my head around anybody now. I don't like NJ because they usually beat the snot out of my Leafs - although I've found myself rooting for them because I think it's close to the end for Marty Broudour. I've also found myself rooting for the Rangers because they're the remaining Original 6'er.
Lisa - I was pulling for Bawstuhn for awhile there.
My Leafs were early season contenders. Somewhere along the lines they realized they still were the Toronto Maple Leafs and started sucking BIG TIME.
That said, I've enjoyed all the Eastern playoff games. It'll take me a good many years before my West Coast upbringing and return provides me with a team I can cheer on. I'll always be a Leafs fan just as I've always been a Chargers and Padres supporter --- and when it comes to that, San Diego Gulls. They were the first pro hockey I ever saw live.
It's so darn hot here I can't even think about hockey, probably because my Bruins aren't in it this year (and it looks like Tim Thomas is going to be sitting out next season) :'( , but maaaan, as soon as that air gets crisp, I get excited for Friday nights watching my godson play football, and then HOCKEY! I dumped my cable, so hubby and I have missed Center Ice, but now that we have the ROKU box set up, we can order the NHL channel through it, and I can't wait! ;D

I got Center Ice for my birthday. I was kind of upset it didn't allow for pre-season games though.
The downside to not living along the CDN border is the lack of CBC and "free" hockey. Where I was I was guaranteed the Maple Leafs and Senators and one other game or so. Those were the days...
I would say the lack of CBC programming, including HNIC, and no TSN is the only real downside to living here for my husband. We don't get near as many telecasts, no major juniors coverage (or curling, drives my in-laws nuts when they visit. They won't come during the Briar LOL), and in his opinion, the US play by play kinda suc...isn't good 😉 . That's what we loved about Center Ice, is the ability to have HNIC commentary on the games, plus Coaches Corner...I do love me some "grapes"! (miss the old theme song though, they really should have fought for that).
I really don't understand why CBC doesn't license it's broadcast for use outside Canada. There is so much US TV on Canadian airwaves, but we're pretty limited on what we get. However, I can get lots of Canadian home and garden, and children's programing on Ion. There is a ton of good Canadian programming that people in the States and elsewhere would love to have access to, particularly the expats. Then again, I don't know if it's a CBC decision, or the NHL?
We tried a sling box at his parents to stream HNIC and other programming for a while, but Rogers high-speed internet is pretty spotty, and it just wasn't very good quality, so we continue to look for a way to get our "fix", without signing over our first born to the cable company ;D.

Lisa, most of the Center Ice broadcasts I watched for the Maple Leafs were CBC's. I don't know why we can't get them elsewise. (Where else would I get my Don Cherry's Coach's Corner fix?)
As far as CDN commentators... don't the in-laws realize most of the commentators are CDN?!
LOL, they think they tone it down for the US market ;D
