Next weekend, Aug 4-5, we will be near Bloomsburg, PA for a baby shower. In the past, we've rented hotels to visit family in Bloomsburg. But now we have the PUP, so we thought we'd overnight it for way less $. Anyone ever stay here? It is bordered by Route 42, The Susquehanna River and Fishing Creek-which is quite broad at this point. They say $34 a night for water and electric. And have lots of sites open, as it isn't a holiday weekend. So, we're gonna drive in and look around, if we like it, we'll stay. If not, we'll set up in his uncles back yard. Check in and out is 3pm, so, we'll have time to fish and check the place out good.

So, this wasn't a destination campground. But is WAS right on the river and had a boat launch. Plus the creek on the upper side was a great fishing spot (state stocks it, so you do need PA fishing lic)with a very picturesque covered bridge, with parking next to it. The creek is navigable with kayaks, and you can put in near Buckhorn and float down through. The bathrooms were functional, water was nice and hot, good water pressure too. Everything had a fresh coat of paint. And the ceiling tiles were due to be installed as soon as they were delivered.
You see, this CG had been totally underwater during the Oct 2011 flood.
It is rustic, but cheap. The lady at office was nice. We had our pick of sites as it wasn't busy. They do have seasonal sites. But lots and lots of nightly rentals too. They have a large grassy group camping area(full sun), a pavillion, and large fire ring in this area too. Or, you can take your pick of individual sites. I'd recommend A 1to 4, 12-14(shady). Loop B(shady), Loop D(shady), LoopI 1-15(part shade) 16-32 (shady), K(sunny), J(part shade). ALthough I may be no hook-up, can't remember. On Fair Event weekends, you must make reservations. THe rest of the year is pretty much pull in and pick a site out that suits you. Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Sites H21 -29 are shaded and the creek is down a steep embankment , same with sites I27-32.
In Fair event weekends it could get very rowdy, but, just depends on your neighbors. If it rains hard, there will be standing water the farther toward Area F that you go. If it rains hard for several days....well...call ahead as they may have flood warnings.
Bloomsburg itself is a college town, with lots of taverns, coffee shops, and places to shop and eat. They have a huges town park along the river too. There are chain restaurants at intersection of 42 and Route 80, as well as a Wallyworld, Sears, etc. This area is crazy for the local football teams, both college and high school.
Would we go there again? Probably. Hotel room would have been $129 per night, CG was $34. AND I slept in my own bed, with my own linens. Piece of mind right there for ya.
Did take a couple pics, will try to load soon.
