I just finished a last minute mod to my popup and I am hooked up ready to go to Ricketts Glen next weekend. I just need to throw some food in a cooler and some clothes in a suitcase. I am excited to go. It is a solo trip for me. DW and DS are staying home this trip.
This is more of a scouting trip to see what it is like. My sister wants to "go camping" there with her family in the fall. That means she will be staying in a hotel or one of the modern cabins. So I am going to see what trails I can take a 6 and an 8 year old on and possibly push a jogging stroller.
I have a spot right on the water, #29. I have been wanting to camp right on the water for a long time but most of the SP's do not have many pet sites and you can probably count on one hand the number of pet sites on the waterfront in PA. My dog is staying home this trip as well.
I know there is a steep hill driving north into the park. I normally tow with my 4cyl Toyota but I looked into driving around so I enter the park driving south and that will put me 45 minutes out of the way :tickedoff: So I decided to hook up to "Big Ugly", my full size Ford van with a V8, and I will tow with that next weekend. I bet the gas used driving Big Ugly and going straight up the hill will equal the same as if I took my 4cyl and drove around and came in driving South. Plus I will be having a beer 45 minutes sooner

The last day at work always sucks. There is always last minute stuff I think I can be doing.....Oh, don't forget my eye drops, Do I stop at Dick's sporting goods to get my fishing license or just get it online????

I had an awesome time this weekend. I did the waterfall hike. It was awesome  I am not going to take my 6 and 8 year old niece and nephew on the trail until I know they can handle distance and difficult rocky and sometimes downright scary situations of steep loose rock steps. Oh and then there is the dimwit who doesn't wait for you to pass a narrow section of trail before they start in the other direction >:( It was funny to see a couple who were obviously on a date. She was all dolled up with makeup on....this isn't a trail you get dressed up for 😛
I took video as well but that needs to be edited. Downloaded some pics HERE

As you can see I took Big Ugly instead of my 4cyl Tacoma. The hill came upon me right after a turn so I couldn't hit the hill with speed. I put him in 2nd and crawled up it doing about 25-30. Big Ugly is old and tired and I didn't want to push him too hard. Going down the hill on Sunday I put him in 2nd and used a little brake coming down.
