So I was visiting the in-laws this weekend and my BIL has a big bad 2000 7.3 Diesel quad cab F350 single wheel in the back. In talking....and his bragging... about how much better his F350 was at everything than my 2007 Crew Max Toyota Tundra 5.7 gas I can actually out tow him. He is rated to tow only 10,000 and I can tow 10,100. That extra 100#'s also means I have a class IV hitch, not a class III being rated for over 10k.
I was shocked 😮 . I usually expect ribbing from my in-laws about driving a Toyota but when it came down to the numbers......I outperform :rock: Suck it in-laws!!!!!
I know we aren't totally comparing apples to apples because there is 7 years difference in the vehicles and technological advances have been made but....Suck it in-laws!!! Did I say that already?
My other BIL has some old 77 Ford with a 460 motor in it that I knew I would out tow due to my Transmission. My FIL has a 98 Dodge 1500 that he always brags nobody else can handle towing his 16 foot landscaping trailer (Pssst my 27 foot TT weighs 6k. I think I can handle your wussy landscaping trailer). The only one that I felt fairly certain could outperform me was my BIL with the Diesel F350. We got to talking and he has towed "...about 2ton. I can handle Dad's trailer." Did I mention it is a wussy 16 foot landscaping trailer? Then we looked at door jambs between the F350 and Tundra and.......Suck it in-laws!!!! I am king of towing!!!!"
I know diesels can go for many more miles than a gas motor but....This F350 has 350k miles and is rusted to the point the bed is almost falling off. The motor isn't running right either so my BIL had to buy a jeep to be his daily driver.
Why is Diesel better ??

And a 2007 F350 with a 6.0 is rated at a minimum 10,200 and a max of 13,000. Year for year, The diesel beats you! That said, it's all a numbers game, that's all it is. As for diesel VS gas, numbers aside, the diesel will out pull the gas every time, imho! Another Ford fact for you. The 3.5 EcoBoost can come with 3 different HP ratings. The base F150 has 365 HP, the Raptor will have around 400 and the GT500 will push over 600 ! The same engine with different tuning!
Comparing 2007's the only difference is 3,000#. My Tundra is considered a 1/2 ton and the F350 is a 1 ton truck. What's the rating on a 2007 F150? And isn't the 6.0 motor complete crap needing major rebuilding often during it's lifetime?

The tow rating for the 2000 was 11300 to 13400. If you actually were towing 10000 lbs on a regular basis the Toyota wouldn't make it 5 years without a major component failure. Sure they say the Toyota can do it but for how long and at what cost? There is a reason its called a 1/2 ton pickup. so 10 years from now that rotted out 7.3 will still be hauling junk around. A Toyota will be on its second powertrain. IMHO the ford WINS hands down. I drive a Chevy and work for Toyota.

I was glad to hear my BIL had the 7.3 since they seem to be a damn good motor and not the 6.0. Chances are high it can still be running in another 10 years. However, currently it isn't running right to the point he had to buy a jeep to be his daily driver. I think the problem may be mechanic error. By the way, my BIL prides himself on being a mechanic and working on his own vehicles 😉
