The way the news stated tonite. 94-04 Jeeps will be inspected. Basically "inspected" means, they will be checked for trailer hitches. Chrysler has agreed to instal a trailer hitch on those that dont already have one.
Mine does have a hitch, but it is bent just a touch due to wife backing in to pole a while back. I dont see ant stress cracks or weld breaks. The hitch actually is better now because my bar now is just a touch lower at ball end, and my PUP sits perfectly level now.
However I must wonder if I should remove my hitch now, and let Chrysler instal a brand new one for me. HMMMMM :-X
Don't you just love PR people and Lawyers. 😮
Inspected, yeah right. How are they going to inspect them if they don't recall them? Hmmm.
The Jeeps will just magically appear at the dealerships for inspections. ;D ;D ;D
It's a recall. PERIOD.
These same Lawyers would go to trial and try to get the jury to believe that it was the driver's fault for getting hit in the rear and having his jeep without a hitch exploding.
No shame or responsibility. That's really too bad.
Some food for thought.
According to NHTSA, the Fiery Pinto which was a big deal a few decades ago had 27 deaths associated with fire from rear end collisions. This was on over 3 million cars sold.
According to NHTSA, the Jeep GC's and Liberty's have had 51 deaths associated with fire from rear end collisions. This was on 2.7 million cars sold.
The fiery death rate for Jeeps is about double that of the Pintos.
And if you use the figure that Jeep is recalling at about 1.5 million cars, the rate of death is about 4 times greater.
Makes you wonder that it is about 4 times safer to drive a 1970's Pinto over a Jeep GC or Liberty.
Now, that's scary.
