I wish I could have taken a picture. Yesterday on a highway I pulled up behind a Travel Trailer doing about 40mph with it's hazard lights on. I pulled out to pass it and then I noticed that they only had 3 wheels on it!!! I am guessing they got a flat tire. Is it acceptable to drive without a tire on one of the tandem axles? It was hanging real low also, I wonder what kind of stress was on the suspension.
I did that the other day.
A tire blew and I drove about a mile to the next exit (at a couple miles per hour) on 3 good tires and a flat.
I made sure the rim was not hitting the ground first though.
There just wasn't a good place to change the tire on the side of the highway without being at a bad angle causing a dangerous tire change.
I would never think of driving any distance (or at driving speeds) on only 3 tires.
Saw a guy pulling an empty lawn trailer today with only 3 tires. I was doing about 65 when he passed me. Must have been doing 75+.
Back in college I drove on 3 tires pulling a landscaping trailer....twice actually. It was on a side road and I drove no faster than 20mph until I got to a gas station to change the tire. My boss would only put used tires on because they were always blowing out. In retrospect I wonder if they always blew out because they were bald used car tires on an overloaded trailer. His mechanic would give him the used tires for free. We would have multiple tires in the trailer not mounted on rims so I would have to find a gas station to mount the tire and continue on my day.
