I need to hear about everyones different ways to cook smores. Has anyone tried other ingredients? :smore: Do you melt the choc on the cracker first? :smore: What to trick to browning without burning?
We add the choc on the cracker and put them on the side of the fire to soften up. I've heard of people using peanut butter but we've never tried it.
If there is a grate over the fire ring, I try to put the graham cracker and choc on the side to warm up and melt together. 😛 I also toast the marshmallows over the hot coals and not the flames... well the kids most just set fire to them. :-[ We've never tried other stuff but some ideas would be great?
Ok you can start the harassing now, believe it or not, I have never had a smore!!! I have camped over half my life and for whatever reason be it too many beers, too tired, too many beers, too busy, too many beers, not in the mood, or even too many beers I've never had a smore!!
The DW and kids will make them and even break out the pie irons and make what ever it is they make in those things .....I prefer to kick back and have ..........you guessed it.......too many beers!!
To be honest, I really don't care for them either. They are messy, sticky and too much work for what they are. My wife and kids love 'em though. That's where I heard of the banana's.
I tell the kids in my Cub Scout Pack that "we don't have smores, they only have those in the Girl Scouts". I know that's not pc but I'm not dealing with the mess.
A good friend of DW introduced us to a different type of smores. She calls them Mexican Smores.
Take a large Mexican flour tortilla, spread peanut butter, add chocolate and marshmallow. Roll or better yet fold as a pouch (not tight). Put pouch in aluminum foil and throw over medium heat fire. Let cook for 5 to 7 min on each side. Retrieve and enjoy.
I already started some variations of this Mexican smores by adding bananas... 😛
Honestly, I am not a smore eater... until I tried one of these Mexicans... now I am a believer ;D
