I bought a brand new Dutch Oven at Harbor Freight for $30. I figured it was a good starter DO. I know it may be low quality, but I'm not a chef and don't want to invest big bucks into this hobby just yet. I have used a DO when I as a kid in the Boy Scouts.....20 years ago.
From what I understand, you never "clean" your DO. Just wipe it out when you are done and keep it dry with a coat of oil on it until next time.
I know there are people on here who are much more experienced than I am with a DO. How'd I do seasoning it? Any tips on care of the DO?
HERE is a link to my vid of the DO seasoning.

Lone Lock- Just went Saturday to the Lodge outlet store and bought a 10" to start on myself. I only paid $35 for it from the "seconds" section. I have found two websites that really seem to have lots of good informaiton:

I am a beginner too!!!! Hope these sites are helpful. :chef:
This is the best page on reseasoning a cast iron pan that I've ever seen.
Chemistry of Cast Iron Seasoning: A Science-Based How-To
Best suggestion I can give is to always use stainless steel utensils. Get a good spatula with a perfectly straight edge. The stainless steel will take off any high spots and bumps on the surface of the cast iron. The straight edge will ensure that you have a flat surface at all times.
Have fun with it.
