I may be the heretic in the tent here but I'm thinking three letters: MRE.
I'm going to be doing some camping this summer where I have to travel light so I'm brining some self-heating MRE's along for at least some of my meals. Dinner mostly.
I agree totally with Steve. There are no rights and wrongs, here, only practical choices and preferences. I've done MRE's, myself, a few times in campgrounds. (I mostly use 'em for backpacking, though; a tad heavy, but EASY on the KP detail.)
I know this won't be popular, but it's hard for our family to find time for cooking while we're camping! There's always so much to do (biking, hiking, naps, fishing, kayaking, beach, naps, games like football/ladderball/sorry/poker, 'sleeping in', walking around and checking out everyone else's sites, campfire, stargazing, napping in the hammock ;))
When we're camping, we're either in extreme relaxation mode or constantly on the go. As parents, we try to present camping as a getaway from everyday life, whatever extreme everyday life may be - it might be not exciting enough, or too exciting, depending on the circumstances. Either way, everyone goes between the extremes of being totally lazy and extremely active; in our family dynamic, neither is conductive to spending a lot of time cooking while camping.
Camping or not, we always try to reserve a couple of nights at home during the week for elaborate dinners. During the camping season, I have an informal tradition of making a 'first full day back' dinner that's time-consuming and would be harder to do while camping (i.e. roast turkey/stuffing, shrimp scampi, chicken/andoullie gumbo, pulled pork, homemade pyrohy (pierogies), etc.) and a special dessert (key lime pie, coca-cola cake, etc.).
I do not have a problem spending time cooking while camping, yet at this time in my life, it's more appreciated if it's done at home. It's also a lot easier for me, as I have access to electricity, hot water right from the tap, a fridge/stove/sink larger than the one in my PUP, as well as a dishwasher.

I do all the cooking in camp, and I help with the dishes. Getting everything organized and prepared is relaxing and fun.
To me it's not a chore, I want to prepare a good meal, either
for me or whomever I'm camping with. Plus that beer that's been iced down just seems to taste better outdoors. I'm starting to try dutch oven cooking, the wife likes it because she doesn't have to heat up the kitchen this summer.
I really enjoy cooking while camping! To me cooking while camping go hand in hand! Breakfast is uasually french toast, pancakes or bacon/sausage and eggs. Now, dinner is the big meal of the day. This meal gets planned days in advance of the trip. If we camp with friends then we each cook part of the meal. As for dessert, either apple cobbler or monkey bread in a DO.
