Restaurants while camping

We were making a reservation last evening and DW noticed local restaurants listed on the campgrounds website.  Now she wants to eat out rather than buying groceries.  I'm the one who does much of the cooking and it's part of the camping experience.  Do you go out to eat while camping?  Maybe the food will suck and she'll wish I had cooked.

For me, a big part of the experience is the camp food. I think there are things that when cooked in the fire taste better than at home.  Plus, I like camping because it can be an inexpensive vacation, restaurants aren't cheap most of the time.

Check out the recipe part of the forum https://canvascampers.com/inde.....?board=6.0 I'm excited to try lasagna in a dutch oven!!

That said, a big breakfast at a local diner totally cures any crappy night sleeping because of noisy neighbors or not realizing my bed wasn't level until it's too late 😉 And it can be fun to go to a different places than you have around home.  (ooh, that reminds me to look for a cici's pizza in gettysburg, lol)

We'll go looking for a restaurant once in a while, but not often. It's usually a case of overnight or morning rain making cooking breakfast a miserable affair, or arriving later than planned on Friday and making a last-minute decision to eat out instead of waiting for the fire to be ready.

We much prefer cooking our own meals. It's part of the camping experience, we both enjoy it, and we often make recipes that differ from the usual home fare.

We've grabbed something to eat for lunch before while out exploring the area we camped in.  But we've never planned on hitting restaurants while actually camping.

If we are using the pup as a replacement for a hotel room, then we will hit restaurants sometimes.

I think restaurant "trying" is part of the allure of out of area camping.  One could circle the US eating barbecue and never twice have the same thing/type.

Depends where we are going, for instance, there is this Mexican place in Ashland, OH that we love, and if we are somewhere that has something we usually can't get, we'll try it. Never go to chain restaurants, we like trying local joints.

Best Regards,
Norm

We usually stop somewhere on the way home.  After the season opener we managed to get the car and the pup into a stall at Sonic on the road out of French Creek.  The previous year we stopped at the Windmill.

The only time we ate at restraunts while camping was our trip out to Yellowstone. One of the best parts of camping is eating camp food.  Food cooked on the grill, fire, or DO.

if we are staying more than 3 days, and in a NEW area that has something unique or different to offer than usual, then we will make the trek to town.

example, wife had never been to plymouth, ma. ( I have several times)
we stayed at miles standish SP.  went to see the ROCK, and ate at a wharfside shack that had awesome whole bellied clams and fresh catch fried fillets.

if your destination is taking you to a festival and you are camping to save on hotel fees, then you will eat at the fair, right?

if just a 3 day hop, then camp food all the way !

Maybe she is tired of you cooking? (kiding) We rarely go out while camping but if there is is some place good close by it may be worth checking into. Sometimes it good to go out on a date.

On short weekend or long weekends we generally don't eat out, but on our longer trips we do. We found a really good cafe at Beavers Bend that became our everyday breakfast stop. Then at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge we had to try the world famous Meers Restaraunt and there famous Meers Burger.

All depends to, what we are doing that day. If we are out running around, or the DW wants a break we will eat out

For day trips away from the camp ground I enjoy packing lunch in a small cooler and eating at one of the many vistas I've encountered.

Certainly not against eating out.
