Good information, thanks for posting it.
We did a long trip (1700 miles one way) last year when we had just started a diet and were concerned about how to eat smart on the long ride to our destination. We ended up bringing sandwich fixins in the cooler, where I could really control the portion size.
We also noticed that many places now have a "healthy" menu with the calorie count posted. I-HOP has some great choices for around 550 calories, as does Applebees - both great choices to the typical fast food burger.
I think the healthiest choice of food is being towed along right behind you. We don't use that option as often as we should but with the rising cost of gas I believe it will be in our future. We usually choose Cracker Barrell as they have more homecooked style meals and breakfast anytime. Usually truck stops have breakfast anytime also. We have tried fast food on the road but we can't leave the dog out there when it is hot anyway so we ended up eating in the vehicle. I think a nice shady spot and eating our own food will be our best way for most of our future trips. My new doctor suggested I might lose some weight and DH is a diabetic so it will be much easier. Thanks for the ideas though in case we need them.
