The absolute best cooking item I ever bought was a small propane grill. I bought it when I was living in an apartment in Florida and we weren't allowed to have grills on the patio 😉 I used it all the time.
My current grill is about 7 years old and the drip shield rusted out and now there is nothing left. Time to make a choice. My mom has a travel Weber that I like but it was $100 or something. Car repairs and house repairs are telling me it's not a good time to tell DW I need more camping equipment My grill is no longer made but I found a different model and the drip shield would be like $15 plus shipping. I was procrastinating buying it. Would it work right, should I just talk to DW about a new one :tickedoff:
Last weekend I was at a Navy reunion with a memorial service for my Dad (he passed away 2 years ago). We had some time between events and passed a garage sale. My bro and DW joked about how Dad loved going to garage sales. My Dad passed on the garage sale eye to me. As they were talking I was checking it out and in a drive-by I was able to see this grill and see that it was clean. We stopped. It looked brand new, like they cooked 1 burger on it. I paid $10 AND I got it with 2 propane bottles. So I basically paid $4 for the grill if the propane was $3 each in a store ;D
Now the real funny part of this story......we were 8 hours away in Plattsburgh NY, 30 minutes from Montreal Canada. It was fitting that on the weekend of my Dad's memorial service that I stop at a garage sale and pick up something. My Dad was known for stopping at garage sales or flea markets where ever he was. My folks were at a wedding in GA and my Dad picked up a parking meter. Some of the family members thought he was crazy :idiot2:
Here is a pic of my grill
