Hands down! Grilled cheese is one of my favorite comfort foods of all times and my kids love it to. Call me nuts But there is something that makes it special to make it and have it around a campfire for a late afternoon snack or late night filler. I always bring all the ingredients to make spectacular types of grilled cheese sandwitches when i go camping. My favorite is soft brie, crispy bacon, thin sliced tomato on challa (thick yellow bread like a potato roll) style bread with a hint of honey mustard. Yes i know its a bit far from the traditional American cheese on white but it sure is good. So if your a camping grilled cheeses lover chime in here and share your favorite grilled cheese sandwitch and or your favorite camping story about preparing Grilled Cheese for you and your kids around the campfire! :chef:

sure do, I love to cook when I am camping and making grilled cheese is fairly easy. I currently own 3 different camping stoves that i have used for tent camping, I hook them all up to a propane tree with my lantern on top and carry a fold up table that i make my portable kitchen out of. Now that i have the pup It's gonna be a all new game on! Its funny when most people think of camping food its u ally hot dogs burgers etc unless you have a DO, My son and i were discussing our menu for the camp Taylor rally and he was like dad are you going to make chicken terriaki stir fry, Tacos or fresh meat sauce and pasta. I laughed and said we have to see what they are doing for the pot luck dinner since I am new to the rally and pup thing. But either way he looks foward to my cooking on our camping trips.

Our grilled cheeses are traditionally made on icky or chilly days. Wheat or white bread, american or cheddar, sometimes a slice of lunch meat. Butter the outside. Toast in a skillet while waiting for the tomato soup to warm up in the microwave while we are inside staying warm.

Grilled cheese any time is good, but it's especially good when camping. We've tried a variety of kinds. Some of our favorites are:
pepper jack/bacon
sharp white cheddar/ blueberries (or blueberry jam if you can't find fresh berries)
grilled cheese pizza (and favorite toppings)
mozarella, tomatoes, basil

We use all kinds of different breads... sourdough, honey wheat, rye, oatnut, home-made, store bought, etc

I think I solved dinner for tonight!
