Hello, I searchED on the site did not return any answer...
My question is not intended to start yet another debate on driving with or without the gas fridge on.
It's just that with the pup, for long distance travelling (i.e. 3hrs and +), I used to switch the 3 way fridge to the pup battery, as it was recharging while driving.
Now with the Antigua HTT, the fridge is only 2 way (power + gas). We're planning a 6hr drive this week-end, and I would like to keep some frozen meals in the deep freezer (2 door fridge/freezer). Right now I don't have the trailer at home (hence I don't have the fridge's owner manual with me), but it is being plugged-in shore power. So the fridge will have been kept cold until departure time.
Assuming that I have made the decision to drive and keep the fridge on gas during the trip, how can I make sure that the gas pilot will not die and shut the fridge off. Is there any way to find out? And in terms of propane gas consumption, what am I looking at roughly?
Anything else I should know, or be made aware of? The HTT is still new to us, so I'm not familiar with everything yet. I think the fridge is a Dometic. Wish I had the manual with me. But can you guys give me some tips, do's and don'ts, etc.
I sure miss the 3 way fridge in the Pup. That was so easy! Too bad the HTT did not come with a 3 way fridge. I assume it's because of the freezer.
Thanks for your help.
I can tell you that I drive my Class C with the fridge on gas. I do not have a pilot, I have a direct spark ignition. I have never had a problem. Most everyone on my Class C website travel with the gas on. You MUST turn it off while fueling up at a gas station, but other than that, no issues. Oh, and it uses next to no gas to keep it cold for a weekend.
My theory is that the fridges with the pilot can and do blow out going down the road and that is where the 3-way fridge comes from. The Direct Spark ignition do not have a pilot to blow out so you can keep it on gas while traveling and therefore come as 2-way only.
