Furnace not firing

I jumped in the camper this morning and tried to start my Duo Therm furnace.  No luck  :tickedoff:

It worked in October fine.  I don't know what the issue is now.  The blower starts and then I hear a click but no heat.  I have heard the sail switch could be the culprit.  Has anyone changed it before?  How difficult is it?

You might see if you can free-it-up...maybe spider webs or rodent invasion materials binding it!  >:(
Good Luck!

If you are hearing CLICK CLICK, you can rule out the sail switch. The sail switch won't allow the firing (click, click) to happen until the fan is up to speed and time.

I'll have to get to it and start pulling it apart and clean it first and start diagnosing it.

Matt,
I had problems with my furnace last year and learned more than I ever wanted to know.

First, turn on the burners on your stove to verify that you have propane in the tank and the bottles open.  Next, check the level of the flame to make sure your regulator is working correctly.  The flame on one burner shouldn't get lower when other burners are lite.

I, too, was having the same problem you are having. Just messing with it I unplugged the wires from the circuit board and blew on them to blow out any dust and what not then plugged it back in. Turned it on and it worked! I purchased some contact cleaner and repeated the process using it and have had no more problems, I know, sounds kinda weird but hey it's better than a service call or pulling the whole thing apart.

I opened the back of it and looked at it....don't know what I was looking at :blink1: .

I confirmed it is clicking (I was starting to doubt myself after I read Phils message...I was hoping that would be it ) so according to Phil, it shouldn't be the sail switch.

I will try unplugging everything and hitting it with contact cleaner.

The flame on the stove is equal.  I turned the tank on and off just to confirm.  Hmmmm I think the fridge is close to the heater on the propane line. I'll fire that up to make sure it is working.

Is there an igniter that may need to be replaced?

Joe....What are your plans next weekend?  Want to come over for dinner?  and bring your tools with you??????

You may have some cracked solder connections. It's common on molex-type connectors and pulling apart and re-doing may be a temp fix. If it happens again...re-solder all the connector pins on the back of the circuit board.  😉

OK, so there are 4 wires going into it.  2 for the thermostat and 2 for the power (I guess positive and negative).  I disconnected and reconnected the wires. The blower is clearly going on.  I hear one slight click shortly after and then I hear another click a little after.  I think the first click is the sail switch and the second is the ignitor.  I adjusted the air intake from almost closed to midway.  still nothing.  The fridge works and the stove works so I have gas flowing.  I can not test the HW heater for obvious reasons.

Thats where I'm at.  I don't know what my next step from here is.  Any thoughts?

Matt,

I am also in your position.  My furnace is a Suburban.  Did you ever get your furnace fixed?  If so, may I ask what the issue was?

My furnace is currently sitting in my garage.  The RV mechanic pulled it out, looked at it and said I'm better off putting a new one in rather than messing with the old one....a 1989.  I talked with the guy, there is something that rusted out and is causing it not to fire.  I guess the thing is if I replace one part then another part will go and then another.  He said after 25 years, it's done.

I have grand plans of trying to mess with it myself to replace a few of the less expensive parts to get it to work....such as the sail switch and the valve and clean it up.  It would be expensive for me to pay the mechanic to do it, but I will try to mess with it.  But it has been sitting in my garage for 3 months now and the only thing I have done is move it from one corner to another.  I have 2 electric heaters that I'm going to use.  There is only 1 trip in March that I will be taking where I won't have electric and I will just use my Mr. Buddy.
