I believe it is 12 years. ::) There should be a date stamped on the bottle. What I do is if my tanks are starting to get close to the date I will do an exchange with them before they get to old and then I check the date on the bottle of the one I am exchanging out. I do just get them refilled usually because it is cheaper most of the time.

Cylinders are subject to recertification (also known as requalification) twelve years from their date of manufacture and every five years after that.
If you have a tank you are questioning....just exchange it. I believe an exchange in PA is $21 -vs- a refill at $16. I like to do it just to get a clean tank every now and then.
Ironically, not all tanks are subject to the 12 year inspection. I have a Class C RV and the onboard tank is 80#'s and attached to the frame. I was at an actual propane dealer and spoke to Hank Hill who told me RV's with fixed tanks are exempt. My tank is 25 years old. He said I don't have to worry. Either it leaks or it doesn't.

There was one on Milly when I bought her I wasn't sure how long it had set so I exchanged it for new one the other day..
FYI Milly sat for 7 years before I bought her and another 6~ months after I brought her home.
Better safe than sorry.
Hi Pinn. I think you did the right thing. Good job.
