After Raystown this summer we are going to finish off the week in Eastern PA. I am looking for a campground around Lancaster. I was looking online for a campground to stay at and found good reviews for Red Run. Has anyone stayed here or have another suggestion. I want to stay by Gettysburg and DW wants to stay by Lancaster so we compromised and are staying near Lancaster. :-X We will take the boys to Hershey as well and maybe go to Potsville to see the Yuengling Brewery,
BigDawg,
We have camped here a few years ago. Very nice CG, it was pretty small then (about 60 sites) in the middle of Amish county but I think they have around 100 sites now. Lake on one side, creek on the other side of the CG. Spring Gulch CG is also in the same town, we spent 12 days there during the internation rally I organized last June.
I'm not sure how many days you are planning and much you are trying to get done but there are other group rallies in some of those areas.
The Thanksgiving rally in November is only 25-30 minutes from Gettysburg. I started a rally in Gettysburg last May at a CG I know well and plan to have another there next year. It was a great time, 3 miles away.
IMHO, if you are planned to visit Hershey, Lancaster, Gettysburg and Yuengling  and want to be centrally located, I would suggest staying in the Harrisburg/Hershey area.
- Rt 322E to Hershey 15 minutes
- Rt 283E to Lancaster 35 minutes
- Rt 15S to Gettysburg 45 minutes
- RT 81N to Pottsville 1 hour
I used to stay at Red Run as a kid, my parents were good friends with the owner at the time. We always loved staying there, nice location, and you can watch the buggies drive down the road that goes between the two sides of the campground.
With that said, it's been years since I've been there. I've been wanting to take DH there this year for a trip, and would appreciate any feedback on how you like it (if you stay there).
We had a rally last year as Spring Gulch, that was a really nice place. The two swimming pools and the hot tub were really nice, and they seemed to have a lot of activities for the kiddies. But to me it didn't really seem like it was in Amish country, because you couldn't really see any buggies going by when you were in the campground.
Thanks for the info. Joe, looking at the map it makes sense to stay in the middle of everything but DW wants to stay in Amish Country so if it makes her happy then I'm all for that. In the future we would to some more rallies. It is a bit of a drive for us being in W PA. Who knows maybe one of these times we could do one in W PA.
