Hi all, My DW's co-worker is looking for a single axle hybrid for sale. They live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and are looking within a 3 to 5 hour drive. They don't have any brand loyalty. They are towing with a Jeep with a capacity of 3500 lb. so the lighter the better. If anyone knows of one let me know.

I just looked up the smallest rockwood roo hybrid and it has a dry weight of 2782 lbs. Add in two tanks of propane and a battery and nothing else inside, you are about 2900 lbs. Now on a Jeep you have to subtract cargo inside the vehicle and everything but a 150lb driver. Add in a full tank of gas and what you are carrying inside the Jeep and anything else in the trailer, he'll be over the 3500 lb limit. Or much too close for comfort.
I'm not sure if Jeep requires that trailers be under a certain frontal sq. footage, if it does he'll probably be in trouble there as well.

I recommend not going over 80% of the TV capacity unless you live in Iowa or Kansas, some place with no hills or mountains.
That would mean 2800 lbs of weight including the trailer, everything in or on the trailer and what is inside the Jeep. I just don't see towing a hybrid with that Jeep.

That was my feeling also, but they still wanted me to look and see what's available.

since the Jeep has the same tow limit as most minivans, there are only a couple of hybrids out there to fit in that low of capacity.
Starcraft just came out with the 15RB, that has one rear queen bunk end and a GVWR of 3200lbs. they are new though.
the only other one they might find is a Cikira Escape 13 or 15 model but Cikira went out of business. so they might find a deal on one.

If they are also considering purchasing something new, the CampLite CL13BHB with the optional tip-out bunk might be an option for them. That is, assuming the frontal area bikendan mentioned isn't a problem. It has a 2500lb GVWR.

I'm not sure how close the dealers are, or if there's a lot of these floating around on the used market.

JKL has 3500 max and 350lb max tounge wt.
I wouldn't recommend it for 12ft pup nor any hybrid.
Casita TT sure! but nothing full size nor heavy (pup)!
