Question for those who changes thermostat

I see many folks have changed their thermostat to a new digital one. My factory one I think it is a Coleman Mach in my 2010 Jayco 19H does not shut the heat off. Set for 70, I had to shut it off when the camper was 93 degrees! Cheap junk if ya ask me. It is under warranty, but the dealer is over an hour away it would just be easier to upgrade.

My question is this; how does the factory one come off? I gave it a little pull but don't wanna gorilla it off and rip the screws out of the cabinet. Is there a tab or something that releases it? I can take a pic of it later when I get home. Also, what digital therm did you replace it with? It is only heat the AC is a stand alone non ducted unit.

Thanks guys!

I have a 2010 Starcraft 197, its a clone of your 19H.  If you pull the face cover off there should be 2 or 3 screws holding it to the wall.  I replaced mine with a LUX from Lowes for around $25, it took less than 10 min to do.

Thanks Dave, I saw the Lux at Lowes, very nice. Do I just have to give the case a little more beans and pull it off or is there a trick to it? It just seems to not want to separate from the back plate. Squeeze somewhere, or pull out somewhere? It is only screwed into the pressboard side of the cabinet behind the dinette so I don't want to rip those screws right out.

I just pulled, it did take a little bit for it to let loose.  If all else fails just brake it off, your replacing it anyway  ;D

Whats that saying?  If it doesn't work, hit it with a hammer.  If that doesn't make it work, hit it with a bigger hammer and if if it really brakes, who cares it didn't work anyway!

Ok got the cover off. Just had to wiggle a little flat head screwdriver under the edge and it popped off. It is an Atwood thermostat and there is an adjustment screw it looks like pushes the contact closer or further from the conductor. In any case I think it needs to go. Two recessed screws and two wires. I'll post once it's replaced.
