I've never had good luck with dry camping and running on battery. I'm going to install a battery meter I read about on another post to monitor the battery level but need to find ways to have a comfortable weekend with out worrying about my battery level.
Is leaving your camper plugged in while at home bad for the battery? Should I just plug it in a few days before leaving? Should I be using a tinkle charger? What the best way to charge the battery?
The furnace fan seems to be the worst electric use. Are there other options for heat other then a Buddy Heater with no thermostat?
The A/C isn't an issue because I don't have A/C. 12V bunk fans are our cooling. Other than that, we need lights... I think?
Prior to having my dedicated 30amp outlet installed for my PUP, I'd use the battery charger to get it up to snuff, then disconnect the battery, putting it back on the charger the night before a trip, and then hoping the tow vehicle would maintain the charge (as you have the propane leak detector sucking the 12-volt) to the campground.
Most of my camping is with hookups, but I do have a 'spare' battery should I need it. Yes, the furnace is the #1 draw. I use the propane setting for fridge if not connected to electric. As to lights, if I will be using the furnace, I bring along a battery lantern or two so as not to tap into my battery power. I do have propane lanterns, but feel better when they are used outside.
