Does anyone have experience with a propane bottle refill kit?

Save money by refilling your propane bottles yourself! This solid-brass coupler attaches to your propane tank to allow for an easy propane bottle refill. This coupler refills cylinders in one minute or less! A great alternative to disposing and purchasing new propane bottles and a safe, legal propane bottle refill alternative.

Refills cylinders in 1 minute or less
Solid brass construction to last a lifetime
Do not use when air temperature is 85 degrees or above

I use 1 lb propane bottles for camping, and it's aggravating to get to camp, start up the grill, and find that the bottle was only half full.  I can bring more, but it sounds nice to 'top it off', and more importantly, stop throwing those little bottles into the landfill. I feel guilty every time but haven't found a place to recycle them.

I'd love to get your opinion!

I have the adapter and a couple of empty 1# bottles.  I just haven't refilled them yet.  When I do I'll make a vid of it.

I like the idea as well.  It is cheaper and you aren't throwing away all those bottles.  People will jump on and say how unsafe it is and they will never ever camp next to you if you do this, but the reality is, if it was that unsafe, why do they still make it?

I have been doing it for a while and it is really simple.  The trick that you don't always see in the directions it to turn your 20lb tank upside down when filling. Just hook it up, turn the big on upside down and let it fill for 60 seconds.  Works great and save you a bunch of money. Bought my adapter on Amazon for around $15.

Lots of debate on all the  other camping sites as to whether it is safe, legal to refill the small bottles..  Instead of buying this device I just bought to hoses and converted our bbq and Coleman stove to operate off the regular 20lb tanks..

While it never happened to me, I know a guy who had a brand new, 1/4 used green bottle leak while in transit, caused quite the traffic jam on the HWY as he had to pull over and start off loading his vehicle...  Now he should not have been transporting them inside the vehicle, but at the same time, brand new it should not have leaked either...  First question the cops asked was "was it a refill?"    Just beware, of the potential disaster and possible legal ramifications of transporting refilled 1lb bombs...

I now have experience with refilling the 1# bottle.  It wasn't difficult at all

HERE is my video of how easy it is.

I have been filling them a long time with no issues. It is not illegal to refill them. However is is Illegal to transport them refilled over the road. This is a federal DOT law. the valves have plastic pieces and are designed for one time use. Now with that said i still refill mine and transport them, but i use aluminum screw on caps with rubber washer. This seals any seepage that might come thru the valve.

Great looking flag!  ;D

You have to freeze the 1# bottles before refilling them?

Yes you have to freeze them.  The coldness helps suck in the propane or something.

Now that I have a CC flag I can put it to use as a backdrop for my videos

I highly doubt they are unsafe.  How about the over the road 80lb or larger tanks on some city trucks?  Here comes mama posting on facebook about daycare bull boom into the side of the roach coach.    No boom, mama gets her picture in the paper.  Done deal.

Do it all the time in Korea. Have to. Those 1# bottles are $12 or more here.
The only issue I've had is if there is debris in your big LPG tank. I refilled a friend's tanks using a rental 20kg tank, and the debris inside the 20 jammed the big tank's valve.
The freezer trick cracks me up!

Thanks everyone, I'll definitely have to add that to my camping wish list. Harbor freight has some good stuff and some not-so-good stuff.  It's great to have people to bounce these things off on!
