I would say the basics are cooking and sleeping. For cooking you need a stove, pots, cooler, utensils. For sleeping you need to stay warm with either sheets and blankets or a sleeping bag. Many things you can "borrow" from home and you don't even need much if you plan your meals right.

wheel chocks, so your camper doesn't roll away.
an extension cord and electric heater, so your warm
hotdogs and marshmallows, so you don't go hungary.
everything else will work out... I pack a lot of stuff and others make fun of us for it, but I normally have what they need if they forget something.
If you forget anything once, you won't forget it again. My Bro, Sis, and our families rented a Modern Cabin at Gifford Pinchot SP in PA. I don't drink coffee but they do. Well, they forgot the sugar so they were putting vanilla icing in their coffee to make it sweeter :chef: They won't forget the sugar again.

The essentials will include:
Pressure regulator
white potable water hose (get a few extra washers too)
Something to collect grey water in
Sewer hose or garden hose (depending upon camper discharge)
Level (carpenters bubble level works well)
Lynx Levelin blocks (if you get these, get two chocks that fit them), BAL leveler, wood strips/blocks
Wheel chocks (4)
Cookware, bedding and comfort items.
There's a slew of camping accessories, but the major items are listed above.
CHAIRS! Once we were camping and there were these men (I assume brothers) who brought their teenage sons camping. You could tell they weren't regulars b/c everything they had was brand new. Anyway, they forgot CHAIRS so they were STANDING around the campfire trying to keep warm.
2 plastic tubs to wash/rinse dishes
grey water container
hose w/ little gun-thing on the end to make your life easier
flashlights/batteries
plenty of blankets. Can never have too many blankets!
shower supplies. flip flops in case showers are nasty.
folding camp table
cooking stuff such as propane, pots, spoons, etc...
pillows (I've come close to forgetting those b/c they are the last things packed)
undies - yes....I HAVE forgotten those.
Bag to put dirty clothes in
towels
