Do you cancel a weekend trip because of bad weather?  What percentage (%) of rain do they need to call for to make it a wash out?

We have cancelled trips because of weather.  If it looks like it will rain the entire trip, we may cancel.

I have camped many weekends that they were calling for 30% or 40% chance of rain and never got any.

DW tolerates camping.  Rain doesn't help.  We went 2 years ago with my nephew and the only reason we went and we stayed was because my nephew was having such a great time.  I actually turned to DW on Sat and said I would pack up and go but she agreed, my nephew was having a blast so we stayed.

Last year I canceled a trip due to rain but it turned out to be a beautiful weekend. The brownie points that I got from DW for voluntarily canceling that trip without her having to push me were well worth it.

In other words....it depends if I will go or not.

If it's over 50% and not looking like it will clear, we generally stay home. Especially if there is nasty weather/tropical storm, etc in the area.

I was tent camping at Occoneechee SP in VA one summer.  The temps were wonderful, skies clear and I didn't even have the rain fly on the tent to allow for a nice breeze.  As night approached the skies started looking ugly.  I went out and put the fly on "in case".

About midnight the winds picked up and all hell broke loose.  Within minutes the tent was down in a torrential downpour and I was sitting in the cab of the pickup.  The rain never let up until dawn.

After picking up the remnants of the campsite and tossing it all in the bed, I took a drive around the CG.  Only one tent remained standing and two PUPs.

Would I have canceled?  No.  What I would have done was made sure ALL my stakes were firmly planted and guy wires tight.  C'est la vie.

It was my worst camping trip ever... but it was still camping!

Last year we left in pouring rain to go camping with my brother's family and we were dreading it the whole ride up. This was my sister-in-laws first time camping ever and they were in our old tent. We set up in the rain , and it rained most of the night, but by morning, it was slowly clearing out, but we had a fun weekend. We figured  if she could make it through that, than she was a camper. Plus the kids had a great time playing in the rain, would do it again in a heartbeat.

My nephew found some mud.

We tarped everything and all stayed dry.

I was supposed to go camping with another couple last weekend but we called it off due to rain, they have a tent and didn't want to set it up in the rain.
Family emergencies on my part are cancelling it this weekend.

Don't mind rain too much when it's warm, but we always camp at Pine Grove Furnace SP for the first weekend of the Apple Harvest Festival in October. Last year's forecast was for a chance of rain, which turned out to be a full weekend of rain interspersed with drizzle. That's when it becomes a little miserable, especially with 4 adults and a 2-year-old.

That's what kicked our off-and-on talk of looking for a larger high-wall into high gear. Turned out to be easy, since it was soon after the Hershey RV show and we found several trades to choose from.
