Our favorite county park offers both electical sites ( some with water ), and sites that are called primitive ( no electric or water ). Though considered primitive they are still very accessible for popups and/or some trailers ( length questionable ).
When we first got our pop up we used to go to the primitive sites almost exclusively and just relied on battery power for lights and water pump. Once we got AC on the pup we then spent most of our outings in the electric sites.
Now we have an HTT and I'm strongly considering going back into the primitve sites, at least for the early outings since AC is not really needed. To me they are nicer, more secluded sites that offer a better camping experience. Our main camping friends however have a 32ft TT so I'm not sure they're willing or able to go that route. If not, we may just have to be on opposite ends of the park which would give us more reason to excercise by way of biking or hiking from one site to the other.
Most of our camping has been with electric hook ups. Until last year. I talked the wife into taking a week camping trip without hookups. Now most of what we do is in a campground without hookups.
I'd love to start boondocking, but have no idea where to go boondocking near MD. And it can't be too far away or I stress about there not being a place to camp when I got there.

Don't Maryland state parks take reservations? Or are you looking at other camping areas.

Yep they take reservations. But I want to go boondocking, you know, camping out where there's no campground. Most of the places I've heard of to go boondocking are quite a ways away. Since they are not campgrounds, but sites along logging roads and that sort of thing, if they are full, they are full.
Ah, gotcha now.
We've never tried that sort of camping. We've almost always stuck to state parks -- now and then we'll go to a private campground and almost always regret it. And now that our son and his family often go with us, we have to pick state parks with nice bathrooms and showers (daughter-in-law's rules).

After many years tent camping, health prohibited me to continue. Rather than give up the travel and camping, I bought a pop up camper with all the amenities, so I wouldn't have to load, unload the essential amenities. Best decision ever.
I've done both primitive and CG camping with my PUP, and while I love the solitude of primitive, I prefer the luxuries of a campground with full hookup. Summer heat can make me rather ill, so I enjoy my AC. I like the swimming pools where I can exercise my bad leg easily, although I'm back to lake swimming. I like my membership campgrounds, and camp enough to make the membership pay for itself. I do like state parks, but one state charges for pets, per day plus tax and that turns me off.
