We had an unusual neighbor this past weekend and I found it hard not to be sympathetic - but reserved. The lady and her son piled their belongings on the picnic table and stacked various boxes on the ground and then left. Sometime during the night or maybe early morning (when I heard singing, then shouting, and then lamenting followed by singing again), a vintage and ragged looking pop up appeared. It was leaning on one side with an obvious broken lift arm. The mom and son disappeared again for a short time and then reappeared on their site. I walked up to the bath house and on the way back saw the mom, Cheryl, who nodded. I asked her if she needed help setting up and she said they were almost done, but thanks. It seems they were living in the CG for the alotted time limit and were told to move. Since the lift arm was broken on the TV bunk end, they PUSHED the little pup down the road, fully raised, and maneuvered it into place. (Our street side bathroom blocked the view and we still had our curtains pulled that early.) Two days later, the same thing happened. They were having to move everything to another loop - 1.5 miles away!! - and were concerned about how to get their pup up the road and into the hilly sites on the other loop. She said she had had it with the vintage Bethany camper and was going to sell it (good luck!). I suggested she just go over to Walmart about 14 miles away and buy a tent to get out of the elements and possibility the whole pup would collapse on she and her son. She said she and her son were entertainers/musicians a couple of towns away and kept leaving to go to the "market" where they had a vendor stall and also performed. She also had said she had just found out the day before, as well as the pup disaster, that her inheritance is being turned over to the state of Michigan. While we were gone to the festival in the park we were in, they somehow moved and I've wondered since how they fared. Sadly, I've heard stories like this before and find them mostly true but poorly planned out contingencies! At least she was trying to cope well - with singing - and not asking for any money. 🙁
Judy, I saw them move their pup while it was popped up. They did tow it behind their truck. They almost hit a tree. She was yelling "STOP, Oh My! Oh My, Back Up!" I couldn't believe it. I did see that they were moving again, but didn't know where they were moving to.
I wanted to yell at them because they kept driving the wrong way through the loop!
That's right, Jamie. You had a better view than I did! Cheryl was the one who told me they had to push it up the road and were really concerned when they found out they were going to have to move to the Dogwood loop. Did you take a ride over there? Micbur and the Dugans were over on that one and we went to see their beautiful new Kaola TT even though they were gone at the time. That loop was really hilly and bumpy! I'm glad we were in the Magnolia loop.
