Here is an easy DIY fire starter you can make with stuff you normally throw away.  Wad up your old dryer lint and stick it inside a toilet paper tube.  Easy firestarter.

These work very well. Missnanc did this as a craft project at our last year's Southeast Rally and the kids were delighted to use their project to help their parents start fires.

I take the shortcut and clean out the lint trap and just wad the lint into the used dryer sheet, rolling it up and bringing the ends together in a single knot. I'm getting a bit OCD with the lint and can't stand it if DH tosses it. (At least he helps with the laundry occasionally.)

These are the simplest to make work well but I always thought they smelled like a burning sock.  But once the fire is going good that smell goes away.

I love TP rolls stuffed with dryer lint - TP rolls stuffed with shredder waste are a close second!
