We have storage under our table benches (slide out), one with a door and the other with a drawer.  Even though we are trying to keep the storage little on the slide out, the drawer (though handy) has a lot of wasted space around it.  Over 28% of the storage is lost around the drawer so it had to go away and the door is now hinged.

Kids games, balls and gloves can be stored here and accessed through the top of the bench.  I might try hinging the bench top later.

That's a much better solution and provides you more storage.  🙂

I am wanting to do just the opposite. Our dinette seats have storage under them but no way of getting to it except for removing the cushions and the top. I am wanting to put in long drawers that will pull out like yours use to.

It doesn't look like that much lost space....maybe only 25% but definetley not 28%  Are you sure you measured correctly?

Nice Mod.

Totally recommend the hinges and maybe some kind of pneumatic thingy to help them stay open, even if it is a slow closing by itself kind of thing.  Little fingers, even big ones, can be pinched when that thing slips and falls while the other hand is full and trying to carry or get to whatever it is you are looking for.
