How far do you normally travel to go camping?  What's the farthest you've gone?
We normally camp about 4-4.5 hours radius from home for weekend or long weekend trips.  Our longest trip was when we traveled several days to Atlanta to see family, about 900 miles and 16 hours each way.

We usually camp within 2 hours.  There are hundreds of campgrounds within 2 hours of our home.  In that 2 hour circle we could be at Lake Erie, in the mountains,  at numerous lakes, private campgrounds, State Parks or National Forest.

4-5 hrs for a weekend trip.  Much further for a longer trip.  We're heading to Disney's Fort Wilderness on Saturday for 10 days, about 20 hours 1200 mi each way.

Dunno now.  Before I moved it was a couple hours with about 3000 mile R/T being the longest.  Now that I'm in WA I've got a trip schedule to Sequoia NP area.  Including stops should be about 2500 miles R/T.

For standard weekends we like to keep it under 3 hours each way. That way we aren't spending a good portion of the time in the truck driving.

For a "long" 3-4 day weekend we like to keep it under 6 hours travel each way.

The longest trip we've done so far was in 2010 when we went out to Custer, SD; Fort Collins, CO; Durango, CO; and Nashville, IN. That trip was over 4400 miles round trip, not including the "side" trips. I think the total mileage ended up just under 6500 miles.

This year we are planning another long trip - out to Colorado Springs, CO; Durango, CO; Moab, UT; and Fruita, CO. I'm estimating it will be about 4300 miles round trip, and when the side trips are added, it will probably be around 5500 miles by the time we make it back home.

For both of the long trips, we were fortunate enough to be able to take 3+ weeks off of work.

We like to stay less than 3 hours on weekends.  But we have some friends in NY that we like to camp with, that means some of those weekend trips end up being 4 hours or so.

Longer trips are usually longer distances.  Longest so far was coming back from Bar Harbor.  I drove straight through, 16 hours.

If DW and I take a 1/2 day on Friday we will do 3 hours each way.  If we are going up after work, about 1 1/2 hours is usually where we are at.

This is standard operating mode also. If we doing Lancaster County,PA then we might do a normal work day since its so close.

really depends. we've done a couple of 4000 mile trips and often will do 1000 mile trips.
but we'll also do 2 hour trips.

we try to do at least one long trip each year.

It depends.  I have gone camping a little as in just in the back yard to going over 13,500 KM/8,500 Miles (YES - REALLY! Mind you that was 20 years ago and in a tent - for 18 days out of the 32 days I spent there!)

Recently it been anywhere from a 1.5 hour drive to walloping 3 days/2 nights and 2000 KM/1200 miles (each way) drive (pulling a PUP).

This year the first and largest trip is a 6 hour drive in June/July - approx 520 KM/325 miles each way. I am getting married then our honeymoon is going CAMPING!

I expect to put on some where between 1500 to 2500 km again this summer.

Most weekend trips we try to keep under 3 hours. I'd rather keep it under two.  For special weekends , like rally's, I'll go as far as 5 hours.
As for the longest, total drive time 12 or so hours. I try to split this int two days.

We have one trip every year that is farther and lasts more than a couple days, last year was Disney, but we usually keep it 3 hours for weekend trips.

Best Regards,
Norm

General rule is 2 hour drive for every night of camping up to max of 6 hours per day..

If we are camping for a normal 2 night weekend, then I'll drive up to 4 hours away. a three night weekend then I'll go up to 6 hours..  Now when we go on our vacation which ranges from one to two weeks, I am willing to drive up to a maximum of 6 hours per day ...  up to this point we have not camped more then a 6 hour drive .. but we do have a couple planned that will see us using one or more walmart lots over night ..

These travel times are based on minimal traffic and doing highway speeds...  neither of which can be managed while towing ..

Yikes, you're willing to go far for a camp out! I've never driven more than 2 hours to camp, but that may change soon. We do travel to NB to visit my in-laws, and that's an 8 hour drive, and the last hour or two is tough! I'd like to keep any other traveling we do under the 6 hour time limit.
