A friend sent me this pic some time ago and I kept it for "show & tell" -

I (try) to take a look at the tree limbs right around the site I'm about to set up camp at. I've even tossed a line over a dead limb before and caused it to break off. Those falling limbs can punch a hole right through the roof. But falling trees are another matter. And in the case of this pic it looks like that tree was healthy, plus it was a distance away.
Thought it might be good to see ideas about this as the "season" will soon be upon us!
When I was up at French Creek SP in PA in January I was reading on a bulletin board about how don't be alarmed, they are cutting trees to allow sunlight in for new growth, and to get rid of dead, diseased, or dangerous trees.
I am sure some tree hugging group was all pissed off about it. Cutting trees responsibly is a good thing and it helps to prevents something like this.
