Portable Ice Makers

My husband and I are considering buying a portable ice maker and taking it camping with us.  We are tired of spending $3+/bag of ice at campgrounds when we use 2-3 bags a day.  This summer we camped for 8 nights.  When we stopped and thought about it, we spent around $80 in ice and some of the small portable ice makers are $150+/- we would have paid 1/2 of what one of them cost to buy!  One of the machines that we were looking at makes 28 pounds of ice a day, which is about what we use.  My question is...does anyone have one or know of someone who does?  Do you like it?

I have one in my camper and one in my house because I like how the ice is softer to eat. I bought mine off Craigslist for $60-75 each used. Best money I have ever spent and I have Ice all the time when I need to cool down my favorite drink!

Have one and absolutely love it. Sits in the doorway of the PUP and is the first thing out after leveling. By the time we are set up, have a basket of cubes at the ready (first cubes in 12-14 min/30+ lbs a day). Its also the last to go in the PUP and have a basket of ice for the cooler for the ride home.
Liked it so well, bought one as a present for our camping buddies who used it on a 3700 mile 2 week camping trip. They loved it as well.

One thing to remember that the ice makers are not Ice Storage, so you have to be diligent and empty the ice being made into a freezer or cooler or its just melts and goes back into the cycle.

I Concur with Phil. The maker will hold about 3-4 Lbs. of ice. What ice does not get used right away will slowly melt back into the water reservoir under the ice tray.

Thanks you guys!  If you don't mind me asking, those of you that have one, what brand is yours?  I'm going to do some research and hope to have one bought before the next camping trip (in 2 weeks!).

I have had a bunch that didn't turn out well, but I currently have an NewAir. They are a bit more but more solidly built and much quieter.  For me the under $150 ones were very loud and vibrated.
