We brought our broken PUP to our local RV repair guy on Oct 31st. (This is the PUP I forgot to unclamp in one corner and my DH kept cranking)  ::) We have no idea if they've even looked at it yet. (a bunch of the guys raised the roof and got our Halloween candy out for us, but the owner was out) I've called just twice since we hauled it over there,  and it might be my imagination but the owner seemed a little testy. Told me they ordered a part, but hadn't raised the roof yet.  ??? This was almost 2 weeks ago. I'm really not sure what to think. He doesn't specialize in PUPs, but he definitely knows the workings. He does appear to be backlogged.

DH and I decided to wait until after Thanksgiving weekend to call again. Or maybe even ride over. Maybe he'll need money for Christmas shopping and he'll hurry and get the job done so he gets paid.  😉

This is really hard on us, because here in the deep south, this is the very best time of year to camp. And we're really missing out. But at this point, as long as we get it back for the Southeast Spring Rally in April, I guess I should count my blessings.

Good luck working with this repair guy, Pat. We had a similar problem where our PUP needed a lift repair as well as a new winch collar. The shop did nothing for about 5 weeks even though we kept calling each week after the 3rd. Their excuse was they could not get the part. Finally, I got fed up and contacted http://www.canvasreplacements.com and found they had the part in stock and could get it to me the next day. I called the shop (Three Way Campers, Kennesaw, GA) and told them I will bring the part in and expected my PUP back the next week. By gosh, they did it. Funny think was that Canvas Replacements was on their "approved parts" list but they just never checked. At least your guy has the part(s) (so he says). I sure would pressure them and not give any money until you have the work done and you try it out.

Happy Thanksgiving! Definitely, we will see you and Earl at the Spring Rally!

Pat, sorry to hear about your pup.  Hopefully, they'll get on it after the t-day and you'll have your pup back soon. (you know we really need to plan to meet up somewhere in the middle and do some camping 🙂 )

It's like trying to find a good car mechanic for your car , no excuse to get even a little rude, hate when people can't be up front with you when it comes to repairs , did he give you a idea how long it would be ? Even worse when you have to locate and get the part yourself , well check him off the list and make him open up the pup and show you it's 100% before the camper leaves his property. Or else you could have another issue from his repairs. Good luck and hang in there , what ever do not let just ok work slide , you'll pay for it some how  !!!

I'll definitely take everyones advice here. Thank you. And Sno, not only did he not give us a completion date, but we're still not sure what the bills' bottom-line will read.

Pat, we wish you and Earl some better luck! I know your worried if you took it to the proper repair shop and what the bottom price would be.  When you do get the camper back repaired, you will feel it was worth all the trouble when you take it back out on the next camping trip! I know you will have it back in time for the Spring Rally, So hang in there!

your repair place is probably giving priority on other rigs that will make more money for them.
doing your kind of repair is not going to generate the shop as much money as working on a motorhome.

We picked up our PUP this morning. It's so nice to have our baby back in the yard. The repair place actually did a bang-up job fixing the cable system. Actually got it working so smoothly that we can use the electric lift rather than the crank now to raise the top. Gave us a whole bunch of advice on smoother operation and towing. I think it was worth the 1500 repair bill. Just wish it hadn't hit us right before the holidays. Ouch.
Now DH and I are totally OCD about unlatching those clamps. lol.

We intend to go camping between now and Christmas. Probably at our local Tannehill campground. I'll let you know which weekend. Maybe some of our local PUPers can join us!

Glad the PUP is back home where it belongs, Pat! Sounds like the repair job went very well and we're happy you'll be trying it out very soon. Happy Thanksgiving!

Now that's a Happy Thanksgiving present for sure. Congrats to getting your Baby home and in time maybe for a shakedown trip soon.
Wish we could join you but am nursing a sick puppy back from surgery  (torn ACL, who knew puppy's had them). I'll trade my bill for yours ;D.
Know what you mean so I'll guess you and Earl's and Mary & I's Xmas present came early this year.
Happy (and Safe) Holidays's to you and will see ya at the spring Rally.
