I was going a little crazy last winter :p without camping so decided to put Reflectix in the windows for insulation. I was able to buy 2 rolls to cover 3 sides of each bunkend and a layer under the mattresses. I didn't install any on the main windows because there is plastic rather than canvas. We also wanted to see out and let light in the camper.
We normally only use it the first and last trip of the season as the temperatures drop int o the 20s at night. Is works great and makes a big difference. I'll post picture soon.
We just came back from Disney where we experienced 24 degree temperatures at night, and let me tell you... Reflectix does make a difference. We slept like it was 50 degrees outside. We only used the cereamic heater on one end of the camper, and the entire unit felt cozy and nice. We have Reflectix on all bunkend windows and under the mattress. We do not have reflectix on the main cabin windows.

A really basic question here, but can I get Reflectix at Home Depot? (Specifically there. Our local is going under and likely deals to be found.)
Also, and I understand that it's good for insulating warmth, how's it for keeping the pup cool?
(Ya think I'd know these answers.)
Thanks,
S
Steve,
Don't feel bad for not knowing all the answers....that is what we are all here for....to learn from each other 🙂
I am pretty sure Reflectix is available at Home Depot....but each one varies so I would call before I made the trip. I know you can buy it online ( maybe someone can provide a decent site for buying it...I can't think of it off the top of my head)
As far as does reflectix keep a PUP cool I can speak from some experience in that area....Living in the South it gets unbearably hot in the summer ( we have mild winters compared to alot of the states and we make up for it in the summer!) so for our first trip I bought my own "poorman's version" of reflectix not knowing how serious we would be about the PUP or camping,etc.....I used some of those silver reflector things you put in your windshield to keep the steering wheel and interior from getting hot....the dollar store had a bunch of them and i duct taped them together and laid them on top and over the end of our bunkend that was in direct sun most of the day.....i used several bungee cords to hold them down.....it was rigged but it worked ( not during rainy weather mind you.....took them down at the first sign of any kind of wind or rain,etc....reflectix is much better in that regard)
It was brutally hot that week if I remember correctly....102 i think it was with the heat index.....we had not one tree on our site >:( and the bunkends got super hot but i had some curtains i put up to keep the heat in the bunkends and it kept the interior box alot cooler that way(we have AC obviously)....I remember I did a test of the difference with the reflectors on the bunkends and it was 10-15 degrees cooler in the bunkends.....and that wasn't even real reflectix!
So yes I feel sure the real reflectix does work during the summer and if all else fails go get some of those cheap windshield things if you need a quick fix.....haha
We went cold-weather camping late last fall, temps in upper 20's at night. I bought Reflectix, and cut it to fit inside all the bunk end windows and under both mattresses in our hybrid. We also used our PUG's over the bunk ends. It was very cozy warm with using one ceramic heater at night. I haven't tried the Reflectix for keeping the camper cooler in the summer, but we are planning to try them for that, too, this summer. I know the PUG's make a huge difference in the summer, so I'm hoping that it will be even better when using both together.
Steve,
Try looking in your yellow pages for your local HVAC supply house. Call first and make sure they're a public distributor, not just for contractors. I've been using the reflectix for years now as duct wrap right from my supply house. Also note you can get it in 5 foot wide rolls as well. Might not be as cheap as HD or Lowes, but you'll be shopping local.
I was messing with the hot tub at my new house the other day and pulled off one of the sides. I thought to myself as I pulled the panel off "I know that stuff, thats reflectix.....I guess it has uses other than to insulate a popup"
